In this workshop will be capturing the quiet drama of winter skies inspired by nearby locations. We’ll look at the power of composition, the benefit of layers and how glazing can help you achieve subtleties of tone.

You'll have the option to work on a canvas or a wooden panel, experimenting with texture and pallet knives on final layers if you wish to do so. Materials are likely to be acrylics and acrylics inks.

Suitable for all abilities, this workshop offers an inspiring and supportive learning experience to help you develop your skills and knowledge.

During the course we’ll explore:

• how to identify and mix colours that reflect the atmosphere of a winter sky

• how to develop a palette of colours that capture the subtleties of a winter landscape

• the importance of light and how it can create atmosphere, and also be a focal point within a landscape

• blending techniques for creating soft edges and subtle transitions between colours in the sky

• a variety of brushes and techniques for creating cloud formations

• the importance of building layers and using glazing to develop depth and luminosity within a sky

• composition in the landscape to give prominence to the sky
