3 Day Beauty of Trees Course - £285 (4 places available)


As the last colours of Autumn give way to winter, the quiet beauty of trees is revealed. Their intricate structures, textured bark and their individual character becomes the focus – inviting us to look a little closer.

Using trees as our inspiration, we'll explore their shape and form, the important role they play within the landscape, and how they can become beautiful subjects in their own right.

We'll experiment with colour, texture and a variety of materials and techniques to create rich layers, confident marks and paintings full of interest and life.

Suitable for all abilities, this course offers an inspiring and supportive learning experience to help you develop your skills and knowledge.

  • Wednesday 1st to Friday 3rd December 2027

  • 10am - 4pm each day

  • £285 including lunch each day, and a selection of materials to use throughout the course

  • World of Wedgwood, Barlaston, Staffordshire ST12 9ER (free parking on site)

During the course we’ll explore:

  • the role of trees within the landscape, as framing devices and important compositional elements

  • the shape and structure of trees to be able to represent them effectively in our art

  • the colours, patterns and textures found in bark, branches and foliage

  • a variety of materials, brushes and mark making techniques to create convincing foliage and textured surfaces

  • how colour can be used expressively to inject life and energy into trees and the surrounding landscape

  • how to build rich layers of colour and texture to create depth and interest

  • how trees have been used in art by other artists throughout the years

Throughout the course you’ll enjoy:

  • access to step-by-step instructions and comprehensive learning materials

  • experienced tuition and guidance including 1-1 feedback

  • a variety of samples to support your learning, including demonstrations as and when necessary

  • time to practise, explore and develop your own individual approach.

  • a delicious lunch in the beautiful Wedgwood tea rooms each day, as well as unlimited refreshments in the studio area.
