Discover the dramatic possibilities of liquid charcoal and acrylic inks to create expressive coastal scenes full of atmosphere and movement

This workshop will help you build your knowledge of contrast and composition, while encouraging you to be more confident with your mark making skills.

Suitable for all abilities, this workshop offers an inspiring and supportive learning experience to help you develop your skills and knowledge.

  • Tuesday 9th March 2027

  • 10am - 4pm

  • £85 including lunch and a selection of materials to use throughout the day

  • World of Wedgwood, Barlaston, Staffordshire ST12 9ER (free parking on site)

During the course we’ll explore:

  • the qualities of charcoal and ink, and the effects that can be achieved with them

  • expressive mark making techniques to suggest form

  • the importance of building layers to create depth and interest

  • a variety of materials and tools to create texture

  • the use of a limited palette of colours to create softness and atmosphere

  • ways to create a series of studies or paintings that have a cohesive feel to them

Throughout the course you’ll enjoy:

  • access to step-by-step instructions and comprehensive learning materials

  • experienced tuition and guidance including 1-1 feedback

  • a variety of samples to support your learning, including demonstrations as and when necessary

  • time to practise, explore and develop your own individual approach.

  • a relaxed and encouraging atmosphere with a small group of fellow artists.

  • a delicious lunch in the beautiful Wedgwood tea rooms, as well as unlimited refreshments in the studio area.
